I have some bad news and some good news.
First the bad.
I tried to re-read Malazan. I was excited to do so. I got about 1/2 or more into Gardens and couldn't continue. I wasn't having fun. I thought maybe I'm just not a person who can re-read. It's never appealed to me before, why would it work now? I take a lot of my enjoyment from discovering new things about each world, plot, etc. As much as I love Malazan, and it is absolutely one of my favorites. I'm not sure I can re-read it. I may try again after awhile...
The good news.
I finished Path to Ascendancy. It was amazing. I did not expect any less. If Malazan wasn't already on my top10 it would be hard not to include this.
I then read Luke Scull's Grim Company followed by Stephen Aryan's Age of Darkness. Both were very good books. Not quite top10 books, but definitely worthy of a recommendation.
And finally I am currently reading Words of Radiance...again. I wanted to read the 4th Stormlight book and debated just looking through plot summaries or re-reading. I decided to give it one FINAL shot to see if I am a person who can re-read of not. Man..I am absolutely loving Stormlight again.
If I had to analyze why I love SA and not Malazan on a re-read. Gardens is a notably hard book to get through. But more so, ever since I finished Malazan I was invested in that world. I ran at least 2 bracket series on who would win a fight between characters. To even make and seed that bracket it took a lot of research and understanding the Malazan lore much more than one read through gets you. So there wasn't a lot that I forgot. I feel like a lot of new things are happening, so much so that I am avoiding "spoilers" that I may have forgotten on the various SA/Cosmere subreddits.
That's my update...more to come later...
If anyone actually reads this shit please send me a message on the contact me section. I like the catalogue my own thoughts to look at later so I'm also ok if this is only for my own benefit.
